Tweeting on Twitter – everyone is doing it
Filed Under (Uncategorized) by admin on 28-07-2010
Everyone is on Twitter these days and it’s not just celebrities. Many pharmaceutical companies and health organizations have turned to Twitter to appeal to a larger audience. They can provide real-time, up-to-date information about health issues and once you become addicted (which you will), you will see that updates are as often as every minute. The news comes to you rather than you having to look for it. It may seem overwhelming at first but once you get adjusted to the ebb and flow of the Twitter network, you will soon realize that these so-called “tweets” can be a very valuable resource.
Last week, Equinoxe started to tweet (@ EquinoxeLCS) and since then have been following over 60 organizations. Among them include the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Association. These are just a few of the thousands of different tweeters available in Twitter space. These organizations post information about news updates, conferences, workshops, studies, drugs and anything else that has to do with their organization. If you or someone you know suffers from a chronic condition or has a particular health concern, following some of these organizations will allow you to stay in tune with the most recent medical news.
The following are examples of organizations Equinoxe is following at the moment. After sifting through the fakes and copycats, these are the Twitter names recognized on each of the organizations’ websites. Add them to your Twitter directory and find yourself at the forefront of the medical chatter:
1) Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care (@HMSPallCare)
2) Canadian Lung Association (@canlung)
3) Canada Diabetes Association (@DiabetesAssoc)
4) Canadian Cancer Society (@cancersociety)
5) Health Canada (@HealthCanada)
6) The Heart and Stroke Foundation (@TheHSF)
7) Alzheimer’s Association (@alzassociation)
8) McGill University Health Center (@cusm_muhc)
9) CBC Health (@CBCHealth)
10) Health Canada French (@SanteCanada)
If you know of any other tweeters that you think we would benefit from, let us know. We hope to tweet you soon.
